STAFF LIST
REBECCA KLINGER - Founding Editor
In 2015 Rebecca Klinger did what lots of people dream about but never muster the courage to do. She quit a job she hated and hit the road. Living a truly nomadic lifestyle, she makes her way by volunteering at homesteads and animal rescues and pet sitting for animals who sometimes end up loving her more than their owners (Yes, Isa this is about you!). An avid hiker and backpacker, she’s hiked the AT and weathered the winds, heat, and cold (believe it or not!) at Death Valley. She’ll sleep in her car before wasting money on a crappy hotel (but she won’t be happy about it) and would always prefer to be drinking wine in Portugal.
D. LIEBHART - Founding Editor
D. Liebhart is a nurse and a writer. She writes (and sometimes lives) stories about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, where they learn that life is rarely predictable and answers to the most complex questions are almost never black and white. Her debut novel House on Fire was long-listed for the 2022 Petrichor Prize and won the 2023 Page Turner Awards for fiction and debut. Her essay Thalassophobia (a true account of a very out-of-the-ordinary honeymoon) won the 2021 Linda Julian Creative Nonfiction Prize from Emrys Journal and is available on her website (dliebhart.com).
D. and Rebecca have known each other since 1986, when (both desperately in need of friends who appreciated the greatness of David Bowie) they became penpals. Almost four decades later, they’ve never been on a hike together (although Rebecca’s suggested it a million times) and would probably tie in an all Bowie version of Name That Tune.
They launched READ in 2024. In the spirit of Glimmer Train, they hope to publish stories that are emotionally significant and welcome new and diverse voices.
